So cool that we can put a machine on another planet that can send videos back to us. I love this stuff.

Tiny homes.
The ingenuity of tiny homes can be entertaining even for someone who doesn’t have any desire to actually live in one. YouTube has a seemingly endless list of people who love to show you theirs. (Side note: my wife and I giggle about how proud these tiny home types can be of their toilets. It’s a rare tiny home video that doesn’t cover the “potty issue.”)
Alternative Meteorologists.
The availability of live weather data on the Internet has spawned a small industry of online YouTube meteorologists who produce their own weather forecasts without being employed by any local TV station or broadcast network. From what I can tell, Ryan Hall seems to be the leader of the pack in this, but there are enough others out there that it’s probably a matter of opinion. Some of his forecasts are recorded, but when NOAA weather alerts break out he often goes live and even has “weather-spotter” friends around the country who do Jim Cantore-style reports live from on the scene.
Knowing your rights.
Personally, I haven’t gotten a speeding ticket since the 90’s, but I still find videos like this kind of interesting… so many of us – even those of us who support the police – are unaware of what our constitutional rights are and what requests from the police we are obligated to obey.
Live nature cams.
The Internet and the general electronic revolution of recent decades have allowed us to indulge in types of television that wouldn’t have been feasible in the three-channel world I grew up in. Just want something to glance at from time to time while working on other things? Enjoy a 24/7 live single-camera channel that simply waits for creatures of all sorts to gather at a watering hole in the African desert.
The Hip-Hop Physician.
Don’t let his goofy music videos fool you – Dr. Zubin Damania is a serious doctor who does a great job of explaining health issues and isn’t afraid to let you know when he hasn’t even made his own mind up about a health issue yet. I don’t always agree with him, which is yet another reason why he’s good for me to watch.
Learn math with Eddie Woo.
People are more fun when they love what they do and Eddie Woo loves teaching mathematics.
Learn something new every day.
Half as Interesting is the name of this channel that features six minute videos attempting to teach you a little something new each day. The production value is professional and I’d say the age range is probably from middle school to adulthood.
I like languages. Is that too geeky?
There are a few topics I am interested in that I don’t post on here because they are probably way too narrow and geeky to be of much use to most people. A borderline one is linguistics. If anyone wants more of these recommendations, say so in the comments.
The Confederate South that moved farther south.
A certain percentage of humanity is migratory. I’m a homebody and tend to forget that, so I have a natural curiosity about the stories of people who pull up stakes and moved everything they had to places you wouldn’t expect them to show up, especially back in the days when if you made a mistake, it wasn’t so easy to turn around and go back home.
